"Come to the edge," he said.

They said, "We are afraid."

"Come to the edge," he said. They came.

He pushed them ... and they flew.

Question
What program teaches innovation, creativity, problem solving, communication, budgeting, research, leadership and teamwork all at once?
Answer
Destination ImagiNation, or DI for short! Some call DI ‘Creativity 101’; others describe it as ‘thinking outside the box’. However you describe Destination ImagiNation, it is still the world’s largest non-profit, volunteer-based creative problem solving program for young people K-12.

PS - The kids love it, ‘cause it’s FUN!!!!

Description

DI gives everyone a chance to expand on the skills and knowledge they learn in school, but in a non-traditional way. Modeled on a competition, teams of up to seven kids solve challenges that even adults often find intimidating.

DI teams of up to seven kids work together during the school year to solve one of five team challenges, and then participate in a Regional Tournament where their solution is judged against set criteria by a team of trained Appraisers. This makes for an exciting, fun-filled and safe addition to formal classroom learning.

Thousands of students from every region of the province participate in DI programs each year, supported by 100’s of dedicated and caring volunteers.

Destination ImagiNation (http://www.idodi.org/) holds competitions annually for teams of up to 7 participants 8-19 years of age. Students learn artistic, structural, technical, improvisational and performance skills as they tackle one of the team challenges presented by the international organization. Teams do the research and the experimentation needed to solve every aspect of the Team Challenge. The solution can take from several weeks to several months to develop with their Team Managers (coaches) acting in a facilitation-only role. Their performance-based solutions are then presented at a DI tournament.

Instant Challenge

These challenges spark and capture the students’ wild imagination by requiring them to solve a challenge quickly and decisively. Using random materials and verbal responses, the team demonstrates their creative talent on the spot.
